How Open Health Foundation Is Leading Environmental Change in Local Communities

Open Health Foundation believes that a community's health is inseparable from the health of its environment. Over the past year, our teams have partnered with local leaders in Utako and surrounding neighborhoods to run clean-up drives, tree-planting exercises, and workshops on sustainable waste management, all designed to reduce the environmental stressors that make it harder for vulnerable families to stay healthy. These initiatives go hand in hand with our hospice and community outreach work: cleaner water sources and safer living spaces mean fewer preventable illnesses for the patients and families we serve. Volunteers reported that residents were especially engaged when the conversation connected environmental change directly to the wellbeing of their children and elderly relatives. Looking ahead, Open Health Foundation plans to expand these environmental programs into three additional communities, building on the trust and relationships already established through our healthcare outreach. We are grateful to every volunteer and partner organization that made this work possible.
